The best liquid glass coating for cars are the Gyeon Q2 Mohs EVO for drivers who want a wipe-on SiO2 coating that Gyeon USA rates at up to 36 months from one layer, and the Cerakote Rapid Ceramic Paint Sealant for a spray-on ceramic layer that Cerakote rates at 50 washes and that cures in about 2 hours.

Want the longest stated life and have a garage? Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light is rated at up to five years, as long as the car stays indoors for 12 hours after application.

This guide covers what “liquid glass” means on a label, what durability claims really promise, 9H hardness claims, prep and cure times, and when a windshield needs a different product.

The picks are based on makers’ specifications, instructions and Amazon listings, not hands-on testing. We checked each Amazon listing on October 29, 2026 (US delivery, ZIP 10001).

Quick Answer: The Best Liquid Glass Coating for Cars

Gyeon Q2 Mohs EVO is the top pick because its maker states up to 36 months from a single layer and publishes the amount needed per car. Each line below names the maker’s own claim.

How We Chose These Picks

We chose these nine products from the makers’ product pages, printed instructions and Amazon listings. We did not test them. Each pick had to be meant for car paint, state how to apply it, and be in stock on Amazon for US delivery on October 29, 2026. We left out listings whose durability claims disagree with the maker’s own pages, which is why Adam’s Graphene Ceramic Spray Coating Advanced is not a pick. The Score /10 is our editorial weighting of published specs: stated durability (40%), how much the maker publishes about cure, temperature and coverage (30%), and how simple the stated application is (30%). It is not a test result or a customer rating.

Gyeon Q2 Mohs EVO: Best Overall Wipe-On Coating

#1Gyeon Q2 Mohs EVO Ceramic Coating 30 ml
GyeonSiO2 wipe-on coating
8.5OUT OF 10
Stated durability8.6
Spec transparency8.4
Ease of application8.6
This is the pick for drivers who want a true wipe-on SiO2 coating and only want to apply one layer. Gyeon USA states up to 36 months of durability from a single layer and up to 48 months from two layers. The Amazon listing describes it as an SiO2 ceramic coating with up to 3 years of protection.
Gyeon gives a consumption of 15 to 25 ml per car, so the 30 ml bottle suits a sedan or coupe. Gyeon says a 30 ml bottle covers a 4-door sedan and recommends the 50 ml size for full-size SUVs, trucks or a second layer. The product page says to apply one thick layer and wipe it off immediately.
What Gyeon leaves out. The product page gives no application temperature. Gyeon’s own blog also gives two different figures for what a second layer adds, so treat the 48-month number with care.
Want a faster spray that you can reapply at any time? The Cerakote Rapid Ceramic Paint Sealant below cures in about 2 hours.
⚠
Cure: Gyeon says to keep the car dry for 12 hours after the last panel and not to wash it or use strong detergents for 14 days.

8.3OUT OF 10
Stated durability7.0
Spec transparency8.8
Ease of application9.6
This is the easiest way to add a ceramic layer when you do not have a garage day to spare. Cerakote rates it at 50 washes and offers a replacement or refund if it does not last up to 50 washes. The Amazon listing calls it a ceramic paint sealant tested to a 50-wash durability rating.
Cerakote’s instructions are short. Park in the shade, wash and dry the car, and make sure the paint is cool to the touch. Spray a light coat on one panel, wipe it across with one side of the towel, then flip the towel and buff. The sealant cures for about 2 hours, and Cerakote says not to expose it to moisture during that time.
What it is not. The listing says it is not a one-step miracle coating and not a paint corrector. Cerakote also warns that the product will seal in any imperfections, so polish first if the paint has swirls.
Want a coating rated in years instead of washes? Look at the Gyeon Q2 Mohs EVO above.
⚠
Cure: Do not expose the paint to moisture during the 2-hour cure, per Cerakote’s instructions.
Pros
  • ✓50-wash rating backed by a replace or refund guarantee

#3Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light 30 ml
GtechniqSiO2 wipe-on coating
8.2OUT OF 10
Stated durability9.5
Spec transparency9.0
Ease of application5.8
This pick has the longest stated durability in this guide. Gtechniq states up to five years of protection when the coating is properly applied and maintained. Gtechniq describes it as a silicon dioxide based formula that bonds with the clear coat, with 80% of the performance of its professional Crystal Serum Ultra.
The directions are strict. Gtechniq says to apply it indoors, out of direct sunlight, between 5°C and 25°C (41°F to 77°F), and to keep the car indoors for 12 hours afterwards. The paint is washed, decontaminated, polished if needed and wiped with Panel Wipe before the coating goes on.
The catch. Residue must come off right away. Gtechniq says that if residue cures fully, you should polish the area and reapply. An opened bottle should be used within 3 months.
Prefer a coating you can work outdoors in the shade? The CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0 below lists a 40°F to 90°F working range.
⚠
Safety: Gtechniq says to shake well and wear gloves. Do not hold the bottle in your hand while working, because that promotes premature curing.
Pros
  • ✓Up to five years of stated durability
  • ✓Application temperature and indoor time stated
  • ✓Can be topped with Gtechniq EXO or C2 after about 2 hours

CarProSiO2 wipe-on coating
8.1OUT OF 10
Stated durability9.0
Spec transparency9.4
Ease of application5.5
This is the most fully specified coating in this guide. CarPro US lists a durability of 2 to 5 years, a thickness of 1 to 2 microns per coat and a water contact angle of 110°. The Amazon listing states 70% SiO2 at 99.9% purity.
CarPro recommends 2 coats and a maximum of 3. A second coat goes on within 45 to 60 minutes, or the next day if you miss that window. Each section is buffed off as soon as it flashes, usually within 2 to 5 minutes, when the film shows rainbow colors and the towel feels a slight grab.
Two numbers differ between sources. CarPro US gives about 10 ml per coat and a 40°F to 90°F working range. The Amazon listing says about 15 ml per coat for an average car and 40°F to 100°F. Follow the lower temperature limit to be safe.
Want a single layer and fewer steps? The Gyeon Q2 Mohs EVO is designed for one layer.
⚠
Safety: CarPro US says to wear hand protection and respiratory protection such as a painter’s mask, and not to apply in direct sun or on a hot surface.

Chemical GuysCeramic gel wax
8.0OUT OF 10

This is the pick for drivers who want ceramic protection with a wax routine. Chemical Guys calls HydroSlick a true ceramic coating in a gel that is applied with an applicator and buffed off like a wax. The maker states it lasts for up to a year. The Amazon listing promises months of water beading from one application, without a number.
Chemical Guys says to start with a surface that is clean and cool to the touch, and to machine polish away swirls and scratches if necessary. Squeeze 4 to 5 dots onto an applicator pad and spread a thin, even coat one panel at a time, out of direct sunlight. It can come off after 30 seconds, but the maker recommends waiting 1 to 2 minutes before buffing.
What the maker leaves out. Chemical Guys gives no application temperature range and no wait before the first wash. It says the water beading keeps improving for up to 24 hours, depending on the climate.
Want a coating rated in years instead? The Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light above states up to five years.

This is the pick for topping up a coating or adding a quick ceramic layer after a wash. The Amazon listing for C2 Liquid Crystal v3 states up to 6 months of durability. Gtechniq’s current C2 Ceramic Sealant page, for version 4, gives the same figure of up to 6 months.
Gtechniq says to shake the bottle, wear gloves and stay out of direct sunlight. Spray it onto a clean MF1 microfiber cloth, wipe it onto one panel at a time, and buff with a second clean cloth. Layering adds gloss and protection, and it can also be sprayed onto a wet car and used as a drying aid.
Version note. The checked listing is version 3 (model C2 0.25), while Gtechniq’s own site now sells version 4. Gtechniq says an opened bottle should be used within 12 months.
Gtechniq also names C2 as a top coat for Crystal Serum Light, about 2 hours after the coating. Want the coating itself? See the Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light above.

This is the fastest way to add an SiO2 layer, because you can apply it to wet or dry paint. CarPro US says Reload 2.0 was made to maintain CQuartz coatings and also works as a stand-alone sealant, with up to 3 months of protection on daily drivers. The listing describes a water-based formula made mainly of modified SiO2.
For a dry application, CarPro US says to spray 3 to 4 times onto a microfiber towel, spread it over 2 to 2.5 sq ft right away, and work it in until it almost flashes. Then flip the towel, buff, and buff again with a fresh towel. For a wet application, spray 1 to 2 times per panel after washing and dry the car with your drying towel.
Mind the prep. CarPro US says the paint should be free of oil, solvents and wax for best results. Thick or uneven spots should be wiped off with Eraser or IPA right away and reapplied.

This is the simplest product here, and also the one with the least published data. Turtle Wax says it gives the long-lasting protection of a ceramic car wax. Neither the maker page nor the Amazon listing gives a number of months or washes.
Turtle Wax says no surface prep is required, though it recommends a clay bar to remove tar, bug residue or bird droppings. You spray two mists on a 2 ft by 2 ft section, wipe it in with a microfiber towel and buff with a clean side. For more protection, Turtle Wax says to let it cure for 24 hours before a second coat.

5.9OUT OF 10
Stated durability4.5

This is the product the name “Liquid Glass” comes from, and it is not an SiO2 coating. Liquid Glass is a registered trademark of MPT Industries in Dover, New Jersey. The maker describes its system as chemical cross-linking, and the listing says the finish contains no abrasives and no wax.
The maker says the finish will not crack, chip, peel or turn yellow, and that it is safe on clear coats, acrylics, metalflakes, pearls and urethanes. The listing says to apply it very sparingly with a damp pad on a hood or door at a time, at 60°F to 80°F and out of direct sun, then buff after a couple of minutes.
No time figure. Liquid Glass offers a lifetime warranty that the finish will resist the elements, but only with at least two coats properly applied and periodic reapplication. The history of the brand is covered in Liquid Glass auto polish: what really happened.
Want a cured coating with a stated life in years? The Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light states up to five years.

What Is a Liquid Glass Coating?

A liquid glass coating is a liquid you wipe or spray on car paint that dries to a clear, slick, water-repelling layer. The name is used for three different kinds of product, and they last very different lengths of time.

SiO2 ceramic coatings

Wipe-on ceramic coatings are the closest thing to a real glass layer. CarPro says its liquid cures in open air into a ceramic quartz hard coating, about 1 to 2 microns thick per coat. Gtechniq describes Crystal Serum Light as a silicon dioxide based formula that bonds with the clear coat. These products need careful prep and a timed wipe-off, and their makers state durability in years.

Ceramic spray sealants

Spray sealants carry a thinner ceramic layer that you spray on and buff off panel by panel. Cerakote calls its Rapid Ceramic Paint Sealant a ceramic paint sealant and rates it in washes. Turtle Wax describes its Ceramic Spray Coating as giving the protection of a ceramic car wax. Gtechniq rates C2 at up to 6 months, and CarPro US rates Reload 2.0 at up to 3 months as a stand-alone sealant. They are quick to apply and easy to top up.

The Liquid Glass brand polish

Liquid Glass is also a brand name. MPT Industries owns the trademark and sells Liquid Glass Ultimate Auto Polish/Finish, a cross-linking polymer finish with no wax and no abrasives. It shares the name with SiO2 coatings but works differently.

How Long Do Liquid Glass Coatings Last?

Liquid glass coatings last from a few dozen washes to several years, depending on the type and on the maker’s stated conditions. Wipe-on SiO2 coatings are rated in years, spray sealants in washes, and polymer finishes often carry no time figure at all.

Stated durability by product: Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light up to 5 years, CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0 2 to 5 years, Gyeon Q2 Mohs EVO 36 months for one layer and 48 for two, Chemical Guys HydroSlick up to 1 year, Gtechniq C2 up to 6 months, CarPro Reload 2.0 up to 3 months, Cerakote Rapid 50 washes, Liquid Glass and Turtle Wax with no time figure, and Adam’s spray coating with three conflicting claims
What each maker states about durability. Sources: gtechniq.com, carpro-us.com, gyeonusa.com, chemicalguys.com, cerakoteceramics.com, liquidglass.com, turtlewax.com, adamspolishes.com, Amazon listings checked October 29, 2026. Diagram: CarGlassFix.

Read the condition behind the number

Every durability figure here is a maker claim with conditions attached. Gtechniq says longevity depends on how often the car is driven, environmental exposure and washing habits. Gyeon ties 48 months to two layers. Liquid Glass ties its lifetime warranty to at least two coats and periodic reapplication. Adam’s shows how claims drift: its Graphene Ceramic Spray Coating Advanced page says 12 to 18 months, its kit page says 18 to 24 months, and the Amazon title says 18+ months.

What 9H and 10H hardness claims mean

A 9H or 10H claim refers to a pencil hardness grade, not a lab measure of scratch-proofing. ASTM D3363 rates film hardness by pushing pencil leads of known hardness across a coating. ASTM says results can vary between laboratories and between pencil makers, and that the test suits relative rankings. The Adam’s Advanced Graphene Ceramic Coating listing, for example, claims 10H without naming a test. Treat hardness numbers as marketing unless the maker names the method and the substrate.

Glass coatings follow the same rule. Our guide to how long glass coatings last, and why yours stopped covers windshield products.

How to Prep and Apply a Liquid Glass Coating

Prep decides how well a liquid glass coating bonds, and cure rules decide how long it survives the first weeks. The makers’ directions share the same order:

  1. Wash and dry the car in the shade. Cerakote asks for paint that is cool to the touch.
  2. Decontaminate the paint. CarPro says to use an iron remover and clay if contamination exists.
  3. Polish out swirls if you see them. Cerakote warns its sealant will seal in any imperfections.
  4. Remove polishing oils. Gtechniq uses Panel Wipe, CarPro uses Eraser and Gyeon uses Q2M Prep.
  5. Work in small sections. Gtechniq and Turtle Wax both describe areas of about 2 ft by 2 ft.
  6. Level or buff at the right moment. CarPro says to buff when the film flashes, usually within 2 to 5 minutes; Gtechniq says to remove residue immediately.
  7. Follow the cure rules. Keep the car dry and skip strong detergents for as long as the maker says.
Application and cure rules by product: Gtechniq indoors at 41 to 77 F and 12 hours indoors, CarPro 40 to 90 F with 1 to 24 hours dry and no detergents for 5 days, Gyeon 12 hours dry and no washing for 14 days, Cerakote no moisture for 2 hours, Turtle Wax 24 hours before a second coat, Chemical Guys HydroSlick 2 to 3 hours out of the elements, Liquid Glass 60 to 80 F out of the sun

After the cure, CarPro recommends washing with its Reset shampoo, because other soaps can leave residue that temporarily affects water beading. Glass cleaner is a different product with a different job, as explained in can you use glass cleaner on car paint.

Can You Use a Liquid Glass Coating on a Windshield?

Some paint coatings list glass as a safe surface, but a windshield is better served by a coating made for wiped glass. CarPro lists glass among the surfaces CQuartz can protect, and the Turtle Wax listing says its spray is safe on glass. Wipers wear any coating faster. Gtechniq sells a separate glass product, G1 ClearVision Smart Glass. Our guide to the best glass coating for car windshield compares windshield products, and is ceramic coating good for a windshield covers the trade-offs.

Who Should Not Buy a Liquid Glass Coating

A liquid glass coating is the wrong purchase in three situations. Here is what each needs instead.

Your Paint Has Swirls or Scratches

A coating locks in what is under it. Cerakote says its sealant will seal in any imperfections, and Gtechniq says to polish out imperfections before Crystal Serum Light. Polish the paint first, or accept the swirls under a glossier layer.

You Cannot Keep the Car Dry After Application

Wipe-on coatings need a dry window. Gtechniq asks for 12 hours indoors, and Gyeon asks for 12 hours dry after the last panel. If the car must sit outside in rain, a spray sealant with a 2-hour cure, such as Cerakote Rapid, is the safer choice.

You Only Want Rain to Bead on the Windshield

Paint coatings are not built for wiper wear. A dedicated glass coating suits that job better, and a coated windshield needs gentle care afterwards, as covered in how to clean hydrophobic glass.

Final Verdict

The Gyeon Q2 Mohs EVO is our top pick for most cars. Gyeon USA states up to 36 months from one layer, publishes the amount needed per car and gives a 12-hour keep-dry rule.

Short on time or garage space? Get the Cerakote Rapid Ceramic Paint Sealant, which Cerakote rates at 50 washes and which cures in about 2 hours.

Have a garage and polished paint? The Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light carries the longest stated durability here, at up to five years.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best liquid glass coating for cars?

For most drivers, a wipe-on SiO2 coating with a stated durability and clear cure rules is the best choice. Gyeon Q2 Mohs EVO is our top pick because Gyeon USA states up to 36 months from one layer and gives a 12-hour keep-dry rule. Cerakote Rapid Ceramic Paint Sealant is the faster spray option, rated at 50 washes.

Is liquid glass the same as ceramic coating?

Not always. “Liquid glass” is used for SiO2 ceramic coatings, for ceramic spray sealants and for the Liquid Glass brand polish. The Liquid Glass brand from MPT Industries is a cross-linking polymer finish with no wax and no abrasives, not an SiO2 coating.

How long does a liquid glass coating last?

It depends on the product type. Makers of wipe-on SiO2 coatings state 2 to 5 years (CarPro US), up to 5 years (Gtechniq) or up to 36 months for one layer (Gyeon). Spray sealants are rated in washes or months, such as 50 washes for Cerakote and up to 6 months for Gtechniq C2. Every figure is a maker claim that depends on prep and washing habits.

Do I need to polish my car before applying a ceramic coating?

Polish first if the paint has swirls or scratches. Cerakote warns its sealant will seal in any imperfections, and Gtechniq and CarPro both call for decontamination and polishing before their coatings. Then remove polishing oils with a panel wipe.

Can I put a paint ceramic coating on my windshield?

Several paint coatings list glass as a safe surface, but a windshield has wipers, which wear a coating faster. Gtechniq sells a separate glass product, G1 ClearVision Smart Glass. Our guide to the best glass coating for car windshield compares products made for windshields.

What does 9H hardness mean on a ceramic coating?

It refers to a pencil hardness grade. ASTM D3363 measures film hardness by scratching a coating with pencil leads of known hardness. ASTM notes that results can vary between laboratories and pencil makers, so a 9H or 10H claim without the test details tells you little.
