Short answer

Car window tint removal costs about $25 to $75 per side window and $75 to $150 for rear glass with defroster lines. A full vehicle runs about $125 to $375 at a shop, and most published flat prices sit between $149 and $269. DIY supplies cost about $10 to $100.

Ranges come from shop price lists and guides read October 31, 2026, listed under the tool. This is not a quote. Old adhesive, brittle film and vehicle size can move the price.

How the tint removal cost calculator works

The tint removal cost calculator adds a published price for each pane you choose. Pick the number of side windows, say whether the rear glass has film, and choose a shop or DIY. Add a visor strip or a whole windshield if those panes also have film.

The tool uses $25 to $75 per side window, the range GoodCar publishes. Two front windows use $40 to $150. Four or more side windows plus rear glass switch to a full-vehicle range of $125 to $375. Those two ranges match the removal line in our window tint cost calculator, so both tools give the same figure for the same job.

The result is a planning range, and it is not a quote. A shop sets its price after it sees the film and the glass. Sales tax is not included. To see how the work is done, read the guide on how to remove car window tint.

What car window tint removal costs by pane

Car window tint removal costs less per pane on side glass and much more on rear glass. The table lists prices that shops publish online. Each one is a single local market, so treat these as examples.

Range chart of car window tint removal prices: one side window $24 to $75, two front windows $40 to $150, visor strip $20 to $79, whole windshield $60 to $149, rear glass with defroster $75 to $150, sides and rear flat price $125 to $375

Tint Galaxy, Indianapolis, IN$29Not listed$209

Two published guides sit close to these lists. TintFinder gives $25 to $50 per window and $100 to $400 for a full car. Sacramento Auto Tint gives $25 to $50 per window, $75 to $125 for rear glass and $150 to $300 for a full vehicle. CreaTint LA is lower on rear glass, at $50 to $100.

Why rear glass with a defroster costs more

Rear glass costs more because defroster lines sit on the inside surface and slow the job. Turbo Tint Aurora charges $30 for one side window and $149 for rear glass, which is about 5 times as much. North Las Vegas is the low end of the lists, at $79.

The risk is real for both shops and owners. Madico’s installer training says a scraper is recommended only on side windows with no defroster. It also says a scraper on a defroster will damage it, and it recommends a steamer for rear windows. The IWFA Automotive Education Guide says defroster wires are very easily disrupted.

Tint Man FL uses a steamer and a bagged method, and it still states that it cannot guarantee the defroster. Blackout tells customers to report a defroster or radio fault before work starts, because removal does not repair those lines. Ask each shop how it handles rear glass before you book. The guide to the rear windshield defroster explains how the grid works.

Full-vehicle price against pane-by-pane price

A full-vehicle price is usually lower than the same panes billed alone. Billing four side windows and rear glass one by one gives $175 to $450 at the ranges above. The calculator shows that sum next to the $125 to $375 full-vehicle range, so you can see the difference.

The gap is often small at a real shop. At Turbo Tint Allen, four windows at $24 plus $99 for rear glass come to $195, and the full-vehicle price is $189. At Turbo Tint Aurora, the same sum is $269 against $259. Blackout shows the widest saving among these lists, because its flat $150 covers the whole vehicle except the windshield.

Check what each flat price covers. Blackout excludes the windshield. Some Turbo Tint listings name sides and rear, and others say full vehicle. Windshields add $60 at Blackout and $79 to $149 at Turbo Tint locations. A visor strip adds $20 at Blackout and $24 to $79 at Turbo Tint locations.

Shop vs DIY tint removal cost

DIY tint removal costs about $10 to $100 in supplies, and a shop costs about $125 to $375 for a full vehicle. ThePricer puts DIY supplies at about $10 to $50 if you already own some tools. Tint Galaxy and CreaTint LA both price a fabric steamer at $30 to $50.

Side glass is the lower-risk DIY job. Rear glass is where the saving can disappear, because a damaged defroster is a repair bill. Blackout tells owners to avoid scraping across visible electrical lines, and Madico’s training says a scraper on a defroster will damage it.

A new tint job changes the comparison. CreaTint LA includes removal when you book a new install, and TintFinder says most shops include it. Blackout says not to assume removal is free. Ask for one combined price. Our car window tint cost guide covers the new film side of that quote.

What moves a tint removal quote

Film condition moves a removal quote more than darkness does. GoodCar ties its $25 to $75 range to how deteriorated the tint is and how stubborn the old adhesive is. Tinting Chicago bills removal by labor, at $120 an hour, so a slow job costs more there.

Two conditions are worth telling a shop about. Bubbled, peeling or discolored film helps the shop plan the job, and Blackout asks for that detail. A partly removed window matters too, because the leftover adhesive is a separate task.

Factory privacy glass is a different case. Madico says factory tint is made with dyes and pigments inside the glass, so it cannot be removed. Removing film from privacy glass leaves the dark glass in place. Read what privacy glass is before you book a removal for dark rear windows.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to remove tint off car windows?

Published prices run about $25 to $75 per side window and $75 to $150 for rear glass. A full vehicle costs about $125 to $375, and shop lists read in October 2026 ran from $149 to $269.

Is tint removal included with new tint?

Sometimes. CreaTint LA includes it and TintFinder says most shops do, while Blackout says not to assume it. Ask for one combined price before you book.

Can tint removal damage the rear defroster?

Yes. Madico says a scraper on a defroster will damage it, and Tint Man FL states it cannot guarantee the defroster stays undamaged even with its steamer method.

How much is windshield tint removal?

A whole windshield costs $60 at Blackout and $79 to $149 at the Turbo Tint locations that list it. A visor strip costs $20 to $79.

Can you remove factory tint?

No. Madico says factory tint sits inside the glass as dyes and pigments. Lighter glass means a replacement pane, and matching tint on replacement side glass covers that choice.
